Reliance Electric AutoMax PC Link OPC Server

The Reliance Electric AutoMax PC Link OPC Server, herein know as the Server, communicates with the AutoMax PC Link Interface Module by means of a Windows NT device driver developed by SST and supports data exchange with Clients via Microsoft's Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) for Process Control (OPC).  This OCP Server meets the OPC Data Server Specification Version 2.0 and also supports OPC Version 1.0.

The Server allows the user to configure bi-directional communications with the Reliance Electric PC Link Interface Module on behalf of OPC clients. With the PC Link Processor card installed in the computer's backplane bus, the Server can supervise multiple Reliance AutoMax/DCS 5000 Controllers. It can operate as a valid drop, except the Master (drop 0), and can be configured with any valid drop depth on the DCS-NET network. Multiple device drivers and PC Link modules may be installed on the system unit to communicate with multiple networks.

The Server can monitor all drops on the network as well as send data out onto the network. The dual-port memory of the PC Link module maintains an image of all current network data. This feature allows the Server to instantaneously update its database without polling for data over the network.

The Server has a graphical user interface (GUI) configuration environment with an "Explorer" look and feel. The configuration environment allows the Server to be configured with information such as which device to interface and its data so that the Server can communicate with these devices on behalf of the Clients. Data exchanged occurs between the Server and the PC Link device registers.  These registers are defined as part of the configuration process generating Tags in the Server database. Clients and the Server then reference the register data via the tag names.

The Server was developed by DASTEC Corporation using the OPC Server Toolkit from FactorySoft, Inc.
